| Santa Maria dei Greci |
 Attraverso la via di Santa Maria dei Greci si accede alla omonima chiesetta, nel più antico quartiere della città medievale. Costruita nel XII secolo, essa poggia le sue fondamenta sul basamento di un tempio dorico del v secolo a.C. che alcuni ritengono essere quello di Athena, sull’acropoli di Akragas. Preceduta da un piccolo ed elegante cortile, la chiesa presenta una raffinata facciata ingentilita da un portale duecentesco arabo-normanno e da belle finestre e monofore. L’interno è a tre navate con un bel soffitto che ricorda quello della cattedrale ed è arricchito da alcune tracce di affreschi trecenteschi. Dalla navata di sinistra è possibile, attraverso uno stretto corridoio, accedere al basamento nord del tempio dorico, del quale sono visibili alcuni tamburi di colonne |

 Going along Via Santa Maria dei Greci you come to the church of the same name, in the oldest part of the medieval town. It was built in the twelfth century, and its foundations stand on the base of a fifth-century Doric temple which some believe to be that of Athena, in the Akragas acropolis.
The church, in front of which there is an elegant little courtyard, has a refined facade softened by a thirteenth-century Arab - Norman portal and by fine windows. The interior has three naves. There is a fine ceiling reminding one of that of the cathedral and enriched by some traces of fourteenth-century frescos. There is a narrow passage leading from the left nave to the northern base of the Doric temple; some traces of the tambours of its columns can be seen. |
