 Denominata anche “del Purgatorio, la chiesa fu costruita nel XVII secolo nel sito di una più antica, omonima costruzione sacra. Elegante il prospetto rinascimentale-barocco. L’interno, a un’unica navata, è impreziosito da otto statue femminili di Giuseppe e Giacomo Serpotta, raffiguranti le Virtù. A sinistra della chiesa, sotto un leone di pietra, si apre il principale degli ingressi agli antichi ipogei: una perfetta rete di acquedotti sotterranei che alimentavano di acqua potabile Akragas, realizzati probabilmente nel V secolo a.C. |

 Also known as the Purgatorio church, it was built in the seventeenth century on the site of an older
sacred edifice with the same name. It has an elegant Renaissance-Baroque facade.
The interior has only one nave. it is embellished by eight statues of female figures representing the
Virtues, by Giuseppe and Giacomo Serpotta.
To the left of the church, under a stone lion, there is the main entrance to the ancient and perfect network
of underwater aqueducts which supplied Akragas with drinking water. They were probably built in the fifth cen tury B .C. |
